Photodynamic Studies on Aflatoxin B1 using UV Radiation in the Presence of Methylene Blue

Photochemical detoxification reactions have been used to generate photooxidised snake venom product of 0 pharmacologic and therapeutic significance. Photochemical method by exposure to UV radiation for120 min. at 30 C in the presence of methylene blue was used to generate photooxidised aflatoxin B1 product (POAFB1). TLC revealed three spots under UV light illumination and HPLC analysis showed three peaks for POAFB1. The alterations induced st nd in aflatoxin B1 due to photoxidative reaction were analysed by comparison of UV and UV 1 and 2 derivative profile for changes in the absorbance and wave length. The microtitre 96 well assay of aflatoxin B1 and POAFB1 on African green monkey kidney (VERO) cell suspension revealed enhanced cytotoxicity for POAFB1.
